Capoyunk's Reeling!

Beautiful visuals aren't hard to come by at Capogiro. From the dense hues of our berry sorbetti, to the almost unearthly glisten cioccolato scuro seems to take on when it's drenched in espresso. It tastes so good because it looks so good because it tastes. so. good.

That essential complement of the senses has inspired this summer's theme for MOVIE NIGHTS at Capogiro on Passyunk Ave!
Every Monday night at 7PM we'll be showing nominated films from the Academy Awards' "Best Cinematography" category. We'll span a number or years and genres, but you know it's gonna be good. Did I mention it's BYO?

You could stake out a seat right at 7, pop a bottle of wine and call it a date night, or just stop in for a few minutes as usual, glancing up from your little blue cup every now and then to appreciate some fine cinematography. Really, everyone wins.

Movie Nights are back!

Speaking of which, this year, we will start to show kid-friendly movies earlier in the day for folks with young'ins. Stay tuned to the blog to find out more info.

In fact, did you know that Capoyunk is open every day at 9a.m. (except Sundays, at 10a.m.) ready to go with H & H bagels, various coffee drinks, and flaky, buttery, delicious pastries?

We love you, South Philly and we're here for you.
(We even set up a mix tape swap!)

Lately, we've been getting greener and greener.
Our to-go cold cups are earth-friendly and bio-degradable, made of corn.
And our new pints are, also, bio-degradable and earth-friendly, made of sugar cane.
In similar spirit, we here at Capoyunk thought it would be swell to share our coffee grounds with local gardens for composting.

In the very near future, get ready to sit back and relax with your gelato and your favorite records.
We've got a record-listening party we're excited to set up; we're just working out the details.

On Monday, October 26, we'll be holding our last showing of the season! We're sad to be going into hibernation for the winter, but not to worry, we'll be going out with a bang...well at least we hope so. We need your help! Our resident film buff Lydia, who's been handling the movie nights with such grace and poise, is super swamped with work and work and french classes and hasn't been able to choose the perfect ending to our summer fling with y'all.

So, here's where you come in. WE NEED YOU TO SEND US SOME REQUESTS! We're talking, your most favorite, most celebrated, most gets you excited film. We know we got readers, and we know you got opinions, and we know you like movies. We'll let you know what we choose as the best bet tomorrow evening. Feeling Frenchly Fine

Gosh, we promise this will be our last Frenchie. Our film selector extraordinaire has been taking these French classes weekly and I think she has fallen under the spell of "oui oui's" and "croque monsieur's please". Don't worry though, your Italian gelato will get along splendidly with the French fare. They are neighbors and good friends to boot (no pun intended regarding Italy's shape from the sky). This week's screening at CapoYunk is none other then Jean-Luc Godard's "Breathless"/"A bout de souffle." The film was shot in 1960, and has a running time of 87 minutes. In brief, the film is about a young man who comes into trouble with the law, bunks up with his girlfriend to wait out the search party, and what happens when the two of them are forced to stay inside-with each other- for what comes to be too long a time.

Michel, the young man, is a theif who has found himself completly broke and turns to his girl for help. The girl, Patricia, is an American living in Paris. Michel is obsessed with Humphrey Bogart, and this contradiction of character is quite humorous when watching Michel and Patricia's forced interaction in her tiny, quaint Parisian studio. Clueless as to what is going on, Patricia tries to figure out the puzzle pieces while Michel tries to seduce her and keep her occupied. This chain of events unfortunately pushes Patricia in a doubtful direction which leads to...WELL! You're just going to have to come and find out the ending for yourself!

Capoyunk Movie Mondays

We're feeling French again this Monday for our weekly movie night. We had an awesome turnout last Monday with the screwball comedy antics of Divorzio all'italiana that we wanted to keep the same goofball laughs coming. So Monday, at 7pm, come out and check out barista Skye's pick Mon Oncle.

Here's a little something something she had to say about the movie:
"Mon Oncle is a quirky, Chaplinesque film set in Paris. Jacques Tati relies on sound and sight gags rather than dialogue to move the plot along. This satirical film follows one eccentric family’s relationship with their over-technologized home at a peak of the French infatuation with all things Modern. Released in 1958 during a similar time of economic downturn, it's a must see for anyone who has been pondering the economic societal values during this recession."

Not sure about most of it, but you had me at "Chaplinsque" and "sight gags". See you there!

Would You Kill Your Wife?

First off, thanks to all who've been coming out to the Yunk for our movie nights. We love seeing your faces, so drop by anytime! We had a great turn out last week for Ladri di biciclette, and its melancholy made us all wonder if there's any humor left in the world. Well, there is, and we're releasing it this Monday night.

Marcello Mastroianni stars as a man who plots to kill his wife after he falls in love with his cousin in Divorzio all'italiana. Trouble is, divorce is super illegal at that time, and he'll only get away with it if it's a crime of passion and a matter of honor! If that doesn't sound ridiculous enough a plot, wait 'til you see the route he takes as he tries to get the job done.

As always, showing will start at 7PM and is free for anyone who stops by. Popcorn is, as well, with our compliments. Hope to see you, and your neighbor, and your cousin, and maybe your goldfish there!
